Kaveri English School

A focal point of three villages viz. Muthoor, Kulavoor and Kilenjar known as Kuppepadavu in Mangalore Taluk of Dakshina Kannada district in Karnataka state, had no English medium school till May 31st 2001. Geographically Kuppepadavu is about 30 Kms. from deputy commissioner’s office at Mangalore –Hospet highway.
Local villagers could not afford to send their children to an English School which is around 11 Kms. away from Kuppepadavu. Hence, the need of an English Medium school was felt by the residents of these three villages, the villagers knew the importance of education in today’s times but were helpless. This is when Project Crayons surveyed the three villages as a part of our rural development programme. We found that children were going without education for no fault of theirs. Project Crayons realized this urgent need and went ahead with the construction of Kaveri English School, from the current academic year 200 children from these villages are getting free education, books, uniforms and mid-day meals.

Dakshina Kannada School

We have also adopted a Kannada medium school called Dakshin Kannada a primary school at Acharayajora. Now these children are getting free education and the number of children coming is increasing.
We have planned to have English as a compulsory language in this school from the next academic year.

  Computers

Our next development in these institutions will be imparting computer education as information technology plays a big role in today’s times. We have started with the construction of a computer room at Kaveri English school.

Ghar

GHAR houses few girls who had come to Bombay with big dreams and landed in difficult situations. Ghar acts as a facility for the skill-training centre and teaches different things like greeting cards, paper bags, files folders and various gifts items etc. These gift articles and greeting cards are then sold to
corporates and at exhibitions. The income generated is utilized for the welfare of GHAR. It also has various facilities like bathing, savings, counseling facilities. Thus, GHAR is restoring the human dignity and building up the self esteem of these destitutes. Though the set-up is small now we are looking for a bigger place and give more opportunity for the less fortunate.
