Nirmaan – Creating a path for the less fortunate…

The Skill Training Centre & Shelter (Malad)

GHAR - A shelter for the girl child at risk

The project is focused on the needy girl child on the streets or any child in distress. The main idea behind Ghar is to make the girl child aware of their equal rights in the society. In our country the girl child is ignored right from childhood, especially in the economically backward classes. The general perception is that the girl child is only born to do household chores and give birth. Ghar is instituted to provide a future to the girl child and to give them what they want most, a home, lots of love and an atmosphere of security.

Who they are ?
  • The girl child on the streets
• Runaway girls
• Girls in distress

  Our Objectives are:-

• To provide the girls with a healthy & human environment.
• To restore human dignity and build up self-esteem of the girls.
• To provide them with facilities for recreation, medical aid and education
• To understand their physical and emotional needs.
• To reunite them with their families, wherever possible.
• Spreading awareness in the society about the problems faced by them.
• Making them aware of their rights and to assure them that they are a part of the society.

Activities/ Services provided at the shelter:
    • Home – We accommodate any girl child in need of a home.
• Counselling – We have regular counselling programmes at the shelter and ensure that we understand every aspect of their lives and mould them for a better future.
• Facilities – We have other facilities like savings, bathing and washing, etc.
• Health - Health education programmes which includes first Aid, cleanliness, hygiene etc.
• Training and Income generating schemes – The centre imparts training in different skills so that the girls earn while they learn, they make paper bags, files/folders, greeting cards, cloth bags and purses and various other gift articles.

We have found excellent talents in the project, one such name is Savita Das who had a traumatic past and has over-come it by the guidance and support provided at the shelter. Now she has been trained in vocational skills by the volunteers of Crayons and can make difficult designer purses by just having a glance at it. She also teaches the other girls at the centre.

It is our sincere request to your esteemed organisation to support our project in terms of expenses incurred at the shelter and help in our development programmes.
