Savita,
a volunteer specialized in street contacts had a good
network with rag pickers in Andheri station. They would
come to meet their favorite didi (Savita) at Nirmaan,
a shelter home situated in Malwani for less fortunate
street girl child. Some times they would be gifted with
sweets or clothes or at time medicines which added to
their enthusiasm of meeting Savita didi regularly. From
one such street contacts one day Savita came to know about
a 2.5 years old kid whom she had spotted lying near Andheri
station in a very bad state. Immediately Savita rushed
to the spot to find an extremely malnourished girl child
who was nothing more than a framework of bones and a stomach
as big as a 4 – 5 years old kid. When Savita inquired
about the whereabouts' of the child from people living
in the adjoining shanties, she was told about the child’s
father as an alcoholic who used to drive auto rickshaw
sometimes. The child’s mother had expired due to
tuberculosis.

This was the time Project Crayons stepped in & recognised
the most important needs for Maya .

Having a thorough insight of the conditions prevailing,
we at project crayons have decided to do the following
things.
Provide her with nutrition and healthcare so that she
survives and carry it from there.
