EDP -Empowerment of Dreams Program

Educating the future What’s the EDP
The EDP is a tool which provides interventions in the form of sponsorships and scholarships to the needy children from slum communities, rural communities, street children and other underprivileged children.

Project Description.
What we do
Project Crayons has since 2001, set up an EDP intervention in the Malwani slum area in Malad West, Goni Nagar and MHADA colony both in Andheri East, where most of the students are from a disadvantaged background. The EDP is a sponsorship and scholarship program which today is supporting 1000 children and helping them continue their education in schools. Our support is an intervention that includes the school as a partner to the program. We have regular home visits with the children wherein there is proper communication and the parents are aware of the program benefits available to their children.
This is Empowerment by education.

Bharat Mata High School:

Initiated since 2004 in Mumbai’s second largest slum community MALWANI (MALAD). The families dwelling here come with a variety of disadvantages which are linked with the community surroundings. We have a team of community workers who keep in touch with the families and takes feed backs of the progress of the children. The children are coming from large families where there are more than 3 or 4 siblings, thus not physically and emotionally motivating them to acquire any form of education. We initiated a process where in an ‘Education Kit’ was provided to the children. This education kit consists of uniforms, school fees, text books and stationary. This is paid to the school whereby the children are ensured of an education “free of cost” if they come regularly to school. Today there are over 800 students on the EDP.

Little Angel’s and Goni Nagar Slum:
A small kindergarten center for slum children in Andheri, Mumbai. It prepares the foundation of the children living in the slum community at Goni Nagar, Andheri East. The kids are prepared for admission into the English Medium Schools. There are 200 children on this project
